This dress is designed to be a seamless knit.
It is knit entirely in the round on circular needles from the top down and requires no seaming.
It is a perfect knit for the beginner wanting to tackle circular needles as well as being a fun knit construction and option wise for the more experienced knitter.
The Rainbow Dress is designed to fit with negative ease, that means that the finished size will be smaller than actual chest size. This element of the design ensures a good fit, yet still allows plenty of room for movement and growth. My daughter has been wearing the same dress for over three years.
It was originally knit for my then two year old daughter to showcase beautiful rainbow gradient dyed yarn from the yarn cafe. As you can see it works just as well with variegated or plain coloured yarns.
In essence, the rainbow dress is a simple dress with simple clean lines. You can leave it plain to let your beautiful yarn sing or you can dress it up.
The rainbow dress comes with instructions for the following options to individualise your rainbow dress and create a tonne of different variations.
- picot cast off for the bodice shoulder straps
- 2 eyelet rounds for the bodice
- garter stitch hem
- 3 ruffled hems
- 3 lace hems
- 2 picot hems

Any dk/8ply weight yarn that knits up to the required tension.yardage:

4mm/US6 circular needle in 40, 60 and 80cm length
(if knitting in a superwash yarn or you're a loose purler, you will also need a 3.75mm circular needle in 40cm length)
tension:
22 stitches and 30 rows over 4 inches/10cm

14 sizes ranging from newborn to girls size 10
to fit chest size 15 - 28 inch
The sizings are broken down into two patterns which cover the size range,
* 15 - 21 inch chest
* 22 - 28 inch chest
To achieve the best fit for this garment choose sizing based on chest size, not age.
Size down if between sizes rather than up.
